In October of 2008, I made a 15 day trip to Malaysian Borneo with my friend Jayanth. We visited 4 different national parks and the entire trip was focused on wildlife big and small. Each park had its specialities. Bako for proboscis monkeys and mangroves. Mulu for caves and bats. The kinabatangan River area for hornbills, monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, and kingfishers. And the grand finale, Danum Valley for wild orangutan, birds, frogs, insects, and dense rainforests. Each park was fantastic and with the help of some outstanding guides, early mornings, tons of walking, willingness to get drenched in the rain and even deal with a few leeches, we saw a ton, and I learned a lot about what real photographers have to go through to get even a simple shot in the rainforest. I loved Malaysian Borneo and am so fortunate to have gone. I am indebted to all those out there that are fighting to keep the forests in tact.
