In February of 2008, I visited Chilika Sanctuary in Orissa for one day with Jayanth Sharma and Aditya Panda. Aditya knows everything about the place and took us to a wonderful area called Mangalajodi which is truly a bird paradise, especially for waders. It wasn't just the birds that made this place great though. The entire atmosphere with the fisherman, buffalo, reed forests, and lack of any tourists was serene. Visit Mangalajodi - it's future is actually dependent on more tourists coming, thereby providing income to those who have taken responsibility to protect it.
