In July of 2003, I was in London for business, but had the opportunity to head into the countryside with my sister for the weekend. We went to an area called The Cotswolds, made famous by its small towns, Oxford, and Shakespeare's birthplace. We took the train to Stratford Upon Avon, but quickly found it way too crowded, so we hopped a bus to the much sleepier town of Morten en Marsh and one other (I can't remember). After an overnight, we rented bicycles the next morning for a 28 mile ride around the Cotswolds. This was fantastic. The path was mainly paved, never uninteresting, never on the main roads, and unfortunately, rarely flat. There were a lot of tough uphills, but the scenery was great, and the towns we went through were exactly as you would hope. Most of the photos here are from that bike ride. All in all, the ride took us 6 hours done at a leisurly pace. I highly recommend this to anyone heading into England.
