In February of 2007, I went to a region of Kachchh in Gujurat with my parents for 3 days. We stayed put in one place in the village of Hodka at a brilliant lodge run by the village called Shaam e Sharhad. Our days were spent visiting the numerous villages around the area each of which specialized in a different craft, from embroidery to woodwork, to metal work, to leather, etc. Each had its own charm and the contrast of the rich colors of the clothing against the mud houses (bhungas) was stunning. It was also nice to see how creative everyone was in decorating both the inside and outside's of their homes. Especially nice was finally walking through villages and being able to speak with the people who could speak Gujurati, which I can sort of speak. This was definitely one of my favorite trips in India.
