In August of 2009, I traveled to the Eastern most region of Russia, a peninsula called Kamchatka to see the vast wilderness, volcanoes, and primarily grizzly bears of that region. Its hard to get there, and even when you are there you get around mainly by helicopter. The food is terrible and vodka is not my favorite spirit. But I am ready to rank my experience with the bears as my most exhilerating wildlife experience and I fell absolutely in love with the region and its stunning scenery. I was on foot, within 5 meters of giant grizzlies and completely under their spell. I wish I could be here every year.
