Day 1

In October of 2003, the nine nazgul rode again, except this time there were eight nazgul, as Manish fell into shadow. Eight bravely carried on to Lake Powell, for a houseboating adventure through the canyons of southern Utah.

Getting to Lake Powell was an adventure in itself, as 4 were re-routed to Indianapolis, had to watch the Cubs game 7 at the airport, and didn't arrive in Las Vegas until 1 AM, 5 hours after expected. After being picked up by the other 4, they all departed in their van for the 5 hour drive through Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. By the time they all arrived at Uncle Bill's motel in Page, Arizona, it was 5:30 AM, a mere two hours before having to depart for the marina.

After a very short sleep, off to the marina it was to pick up the houseboat and motorboat, and head into the canyons. It didn't take long for the first adventure to begin. Chris and Rich headed out to pick up the motorboat, while the rest loaded up the houseboat and got a head start up the lake. It wasn't long before the first of many cries of "Where's Warren' were to be heard, as the group quickly realized they had departed without him. Being too far into the journey to turn back, they radioed Chris and Rich and informed them to pick up Warren at the marina before departing and bring him with. Leave no man behind. 1 hour later, with Warren safely on board, the motorboat caught the houseboat, and all were united.

After cruising for a while, it was time to hook up the inner tubes and go for a ride. Everyone got theirs, and the award for the best tumble clearly goes to DJ, who did a 3 somersault tumble into the pleasant waters of Lake Powell.

Again the houseboat and motorboat got separated, and Brian, Gautam, Warren, and DJ spent at least an hour looking for the houseboat, which was parked on a secret beach. After numerous walkie talkie conversations, the secret cove was found, and all were reunited once again. The cove was on a small island with great views in all directions, and a formidable wall which everyone decided to see how high upon they could get. The wall proved too vertical though, and they could only get about 1/3 the way up before additional skills would have been required. But the views were great.

After some time hiking around, everyone headed back out on the boat to do some exploring and watch the sunset and the glow of the evening sun upon the canyons. 8 guys a motorboat and the sunset - very romantic. After substantial touring in which they saw the face of Jesus and an angel in the rock formations, it was back to the beach for the evening around the fire, an bbq dinner, and many games of liar's poker.

It was also the evening of evil Rich, discussions about terrorism, George Bush, and Rush Limbaugh. There was the blazing fire, the FYYFF t-shirt, pitching of beer cans, chimneys, rolling in urine, accusations of supporting terrorism...all in all not pretty...but very entertaining.
