In October of 2007, I needed to make a trip to Manila for work, but managed to take three days to go exploring the famous rice terraces area of Banaue, about 8 hours drive far far away from Manila. Upon arrival, I got a great guide and porter and set out for a three day, two night hike through the Ifugao villages and rice terraces, some of which had been built up to 2000 years ago. While it wasn't prime rice growing season and so many of the terraces were brown, it was still amazing to see and also to stay in the small villages we encountered along the way. If you do look through the photos, be forwarned, there are a lot of photos of rice terraces.
