In May of 2008, I met my friend Jayanth for two days in Ranthambore National Park, a place I had heard so much about but had never been. I only had time for 4 drives and the first two while scenic didn't yield too much in terms of excitement. The 3rd drive was also quite slow until right at the end we were overlooking a cliff, and I was about to request to get out of the jeep to get a better landscape photo. Right then, a male tiger emerged from underneath, about 15 feet from our jeep. On the last drive, with the help of a friend, we "drew" the lucky Zone 3, unarguably the most beautiful part of the park and also blessed with the most wildlife. This was a great afternoon watching sambar and wild boar in the water, crocodiles, plenty of birds, and of course 4 different tigers, one of which sat majestically in the open window of the hunting palace.
