In February of 2009, I went to a small park in Gujurat called Velavadar for 2 days with my friend Jayanth. Velavadar is some of the last remaining grassland in India and the landscape is reminiscent of what you might find in the savannahs of East Africa. I came hoping to see hyena. We were unlucky on that account, but we had some great sightings of wolf (very rare), and I had a great encounter with hundreds of damoiselle cranes landing in the wetlands with me hidden in the bushes waiting for them. I also enjoyed the "bouncing" of the black buck through the grasses, though they never performed when I had my camera ready.
